Inspiring the Next Generation
Student Webinar Now Available to Watch

On July 9th, the Landscape Middle East Awards team hosted a powerful and inspiring online session designed specifically for university students preparing to enter the Next-Gen Vision: Student Award 2025. Now, for those who missed it — or simply want to rewatch and take notes — the full replay is available.

The webinar brought together leading voices in landscape architecture education and practice to offer direct, practical advice on preparing a successful award entry. This category has become one of the most exciting and future-focused areas of the Awards, celebrating bold ideas, creative thinking, and student-led innovation.

What Made This Webinar Special?

The purpose was clear: to empower students with the knowledge, motivation, and insight needed to create an award-winning submission. From understanding what “visionary thinking” really means, to learning how to communicate the social and environmental impact of your ideas, each speaker offered a unique lens into the submission process.

Moderated by Phillip Higgins, the session featured an international panel of experts:

  • Cristiano Luchetti, Head of Urban Design at Dorsch Global, discussed the role of young designers in shaping a digital and sustainable future.

  • Ying Li, Chargée d’Affaires for Student Awards Networking at IFLA and Professor of Architecture at Tianjin University, explored the value of competing and being seen in a global forum.

  • Reem Alissa, Assistant Professor at Kuwait University, championed innovation and challenged students to think bigger and bolder.

  • Muneer Al Senaidi, President of the Oman Society of Landscape Architects, emphasized purpose-driven design with real social and environmental value.

  • The session also included a brief interview with Cristina Moujaess, a 2024 Student Award Finalist, who shared her own experience of entering and presenting her project at last year’s Awards in Riyadh.

Key Takeaways for Students

Students were guided through the five questions they’ll need to answer as part of their award submission:

  1. What is the central vision of your concept?

  2. How does your design address sustainability?

  3. How does your concept benefit communities?

  4. What innovative ideas have you proposed?

  5. How effectively have you presented your design?

The jury will evaluate entries on a range of criteria including: creativity, sustainability, impact, innovation, and presentation clarity. More than just an opportunity to win, this award offers visibility, connection to a regional network of professionals, and a chance to help shape the future of the profession.
